Emergency dentistry is one of those professions you rarely think about until you have a desperate need for our services. Being an emergency dentist means we are available to you 24/7, so that if you have a dental emergency you are not required to wait until standard business hours to get it dealt with. Let's face it, if you wake up in the middle of the night Friday with a raging toothache that is causing you agony, you do not want to have to wait until 9 AM on Monday to call in, and schedule an appointment with a regular dentist. This is where emergency dentistry services come into their own. By being available for our patients at any time, we are able to give you the services you need in a timely manner. In other words, if you have that toothache on Saturday, you can come in and see us so that you can get the treatment and medication you need to relieve your discomfort.
The ER vs. an Emergency Dentist
There is a common misconception that has led to a rising misuse of ER facilities, that emergency dentistry services can be found in the emergency room of your local hospital. This is simply not the case, so going to the emergency room of your local hospital is not necessarily the best route to take for a dental emergency. While the doctors and physicians at the emergency room are extremely well-trained professionals, they are not specifically trained in dentistry. If you have a dental emergency that does not involve life-threatening bleeding, going to the emergency room is simply going to put a band-aid on your problem until you can schedule a regular visit with a dentist. It is far more advisable to seek out treatment from our office since we are specifically trained in dental medicine.
As an emergency dentistry office, we have chosen to make our services available outside of standard business hours. We know that dental emergencies, and hence the need for emergency dentistry, does not take place on a routine nine-to-five schedule. However, most dentists only work Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to roughly 5 p.m. If you have an emergency outside of these hours you may find yourself rushing to the emergency room because you are unable to get the emergency services you need from your regular dentist. In this case, you can call our office, even if we are not the one who has recently cleaned your teeth.
It is always advisable to have the contact information of a dentist that provides emergency dentistry services available in the event that you have a dental emergency. The last thing you want to be doing when you are in agony because of a toothache, or a tooth related accident, is searching the internet for a service provider. Despite the fact that we are an emergency dentistry provider, we are also a regular dentist who is always happy to provide you with regular care and ensure that your dental and oral health needs are being met on a regular basis so call us anytime you are in need of dental care.
